Argentina's CNV implements new regulations for virtual asset service providers

The National Securities Commission (CNV) of Argentina has approved comprehensive modifications to the regulatory framework for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), effective October 16, 2026. Under General Resolution No. 1172/2026, the new rules establish minimum net worth requirements ranging from USD 35,000 to USD 150,000, depending on the provider's category.

The regulations mandate the strict segregation of client assets and fiat funds from the providers' own capital, expressly prohibiting the use of client funds for proprietary purposes. Additionally, the CNV has reinforced cybersecurity obligations, requiring annual system audits and specific protocols for private key custody, such as multi-signature and cold storage requirements.

Providers will also be subject to a new periodic reporting regime. Starting November 1, 2026, VASPs must submit monthly reports via the Financial Information Highway (AIF) detailing client numbers, transaction volumes, and the total amount of virtual assets under custody.
