Argentina's Corrientes and Ecuador's Manabí Activate El Niño Contingency Measures

In the Argentine province of Corrientes, Governor Juan Pablo Valdés and the provincial civil‑defence board formally activated emergency plans for the approaching El Niño. Officials announced accelerated work on river banks—including the Uruguay, Paraguay and Riachuelo waterways—alongside a risk‑mapping effort and coordination with agricultural producers through the Ministry of Production.

In Ecuador’s Manabí province, the prefecture declared a “prevention mode” for the same climate event. In the canton of Chone, crews began clearing and reinforcing the San Lorenzo estuary and the Grande River, projects that aim to protect about 100 families and safeguard agricultural lands. Excavators and other equipment are being used to remove sediment, repair embankments and restore water channels across the affected communities.
