Argentina's Corrientes and Santa Fe Ports Expand with New Investments

The director of Ports and River Transportation in Corrientes Province highlighted rapid growth at the provincial capital port, which now handles 500‑540 containers monthly and operates 24/7. He noted that national cabotage restrictions limit foreign‑flagged ships to a single Argentine port, constraining further export growth. He argued that amending the law could boost the port’s volume by 300‑400%, with forestry products, leather and newly added coal leading shipments. The nearby Ituzaingó port is expected to become operational this year after civil works were completed.

In Santa Fe Province, the government announced a modernization plan for Puerto Santa Fe with an investment of over 1.1 billion pesos (about US$740 000). Completed works include upgraded loading pipelines and the Spraycool system to cut emissions and dust. Construction has begun on a new truck tipper that will increase unloading speed tenfold and improve worker safety. Officials said the upgrades will reinforce the port’s role on the main navigable waterway and boost the regional economy.
