Colombia's former first lady Verónica Alcocer faces Fiscalía investigation over audio corruption scandal

Audio recordings attributed to Colombian‑Spanish citizen Eva Ferrer Galcerán mention former first lady Verónica Alcocer in connection with alleged irregularities in public contracts and the handling of campaign funds. The recordings, released by media outlets, claim that Alcocer received millions of euros for the 2022‑2026 presidential campaign.

The Fiscalía General de la Nación opened a preliminary investigation on 5 August to verify the authenticity of the recordings and determine whether the statements constitute criminal conduct. Investigators will interview Ferrer, Alcocer and other individuals named in the audios.

In response, Alcocer filed a formal petition with the Fiscalía on 4 August, stating: "Hemos enviado derecho de petición a la Fiscalía para solicitar información con el legítimo interés de restablecer prontamente mi buen nombre y el de mi familia." She denies any wrongdoing and says the allegations lack any factual basis. The Fiscalía has not yet confirmed whether a formal case has been opened against her.
