Argentina's Jujuy and Tucumán Host Community Eco Walks to Promote Health and Environment

Municipal authorities in San Salvador de Jujuy organized the first “Eco Caminata Saludable,” a free walk that linked the Chijra neighbourhood centre with the city’s ecological reserve. The event, promoted by the local participation council and the municipal botanical park, aimed to encourage residents to disconnect from mobile phones, recycle PET bottles and foster environmental education. Director of Decentralisation Daniel Toconás said the walk was intended to “promote awareness for recycling,” while park director Marcela Gaspar highlighted the need for institutional coordination in combining environmental care with physical activity.

In Bella Vista, Tucumán, officials unveiled the “Eco Maratón Bella Vista,” a three‑kilometre race scheduled for 18 June as part of the provincial Environmental Month. The free marathon routes participants past notable trees, where they receive informational scrolls and later take part in an environmental treasure‑hunt. The initiative, presented by mayor Ana Paula Quiles and tourism officials, seeks to promote healthy habits, teamwork and knowledge of local natural heritage. Winners receive an asado prize and special recognitions.
