Argentina's Luján River flood wall project and municipal water pipe repair

The Río Luján basin management plan in Mercedes, Buenos Aires Province, will enter Stage 3 with construction of a containment wall inside the Municipal Park, extending from the Pulpería bridge to the Belgrano railway bridge. The project, signed with consultancy Serman‑IATASA, aims to curb flood risk, improve drainage, monitor water quality and support climate‑adaptation policies. Public consultations and tendering are expected, with works possibly beginning in late 2027.

Separately, municipal crews repaired a broken water main that had left the city without service. A custom‑made flange was installed to reconnect the sections, and hydraulic tests were carried out. Authorities anticipate that raw water will reach the treatment plant later in the day, allowing progressive restoration of potable water. Emergency water trucks supported hospitals, dialysis centers, nursing homes and other critical facilities while the network was being restored, and residents were urged to use water sparingly until normal service resumes.
