Argentina's Metalworkers Union and FreSU Outline Coordinated Action Plans

Union leaders of the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM) gathered about 35 local sections in the Buenos Aires conurbation to discuss replicating the Matanza seccional model nationwide. The meeting focused on improving the union‑run health insurance scheme (Obra Social) and coordinating a unified stance on collective‑bargaining (paritarias) to protect metalworkers' wages and benefits.

At the same time, the Federación de Sindicatos (FreSU) held a session at the Molineros union headquarters, setting a calendar of actions through late August and September. Planned activities include a talk with ATE Córdoba, a nationwide strike of state workers and teachers, a hybrid hearing before the Inter‑American Commission on Human Rights to denounce union persecution, a protest against a proposed land‑expropriation law, a march to San Cayetano, the launch of a new FreSU index, and preparations for an industry‑day demonstration. Both organisations stress defending workers’ rights and national sovereignty through coordinated actions.
