Argentina VP Villarruel Excluded from May 25 Tedeum

The Secretariat General of the Presidency, headed by Karina Milei, omitted Vice President Victoria Villarruel from the official delegation that will accompany President Javier Milei to the traditional Tedeum ceremony on May 25 at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Buenos Aires. The Senate confirmed that the invitation is sent by the presidential ceremonial area and that Villarruel was not invited, marking the first time since the libertarian government began that she is excluded.

The move deepens a long‑running rift between President Milei and his vice president, whose relationship has deteriorated over several months, including Milei’s refusal to greet Villarruel at last year’s Tedeum. Officials expected to attend include national ministers, legislators from La Libertad Avanza and the PRO, and the provisional Senate president Bartolomé Abdala.

Villarruel responded on social media with a message calling for faith, unity and peace, avoiding direct criticism of the decision. The exclusion is intended to prevent joint images and speculation about greetings during the ceremony, illustrating the internal political conflict within the Argentine executive.
