Argentina's Norte Grande governors clash with Chief of Staff over regional demands

During a Norte Grande summit in Posadas, Argentina, Chief of Staff Diego Santilli met with governors from ten northern provinces to discuss regional grievances. While Santilli claimed that 90 percent of the governors' concerns had been resolved, provincial leaders expressed significant disagreement with this assessment.

Key issues raised by the governors include gas, energy, roads, infrastructure, production, employment, and resources. Specifically, the yerba mate industry has faced a crisis for 27 months, coinciding with deregulation policies under President Javier Milei.

Tucumán Governor Osvaldo Jaldo highlighted a disconnect between the central government's perspective and the reality in the provinces. The summit concluded with a commitment from Santilli to review a compensation mechanism for electricity tariffs in the North in exchange for votes to remove subsidies in non-cold regions.
