Argentina's Peronist Party Plans Nationwide Protest Over CFK Conviction

On June 10, Argentine lawmakers marked the first anniversary of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's house arrest, imposed after her conviction in the "Causa Vialidad" case. Deputies and senators of the Peronist coalition (PJ and Unión por la Patria) issued a strongly worded letter accusing the judiciary of political persecution, describing the sentencing as "a form of political proscription that harms the legitimacy of Argentine democracy."

The party announced a national rally, or "banderazo," scheduled for June 20 in Parque Lezama, Buenos Aires, with parallel activities across the country. The gathering is intended to denounce the conviction, the restrictions on CFK's freedom, and what they call a "deep institutional crisis" caused by the judicial decision.
