Argentina's Press Unions Secure Formal Recognition and Face Plant Closure Dispute

The Association of Press and Communication Workers of San Juan was formally recognized by the Argentine Ministry of Labor on 31 July, becoming the first legally registered press union in the province. Secretary‑General Myriam Pérez highlighted the achievement as a step toward better wages, a new statute and defending journalists' rights, with support from the national federation FATPREN.

In Buenos Aires, the Buenos Aires Press Union (SiPreBA) denounced the forced evacuation and outsourcing of the Clarín graphic plant operated by AGEA S.A. The union says the move threatens dozens of families and could lead to the plant’s closure after more than 80 years of operation. SiPreBA demanded immediate intervention, protection of jobs and compliance with labor legislation, accusing the company of a “labor fraud” aimed at cost‑cutting.
