In late July 2026, Argentine labor groups achieved a milestone when the Association of Press and Communication Workers of San Juan received formal recognition from the Ministry of Labor, marking the first legally registered press union in the province. Secretary-General Myriam Pérez noted the achievement would help defend journalists’ rights and secure better wages. Simultaneously, the Buenos Aires Press Union (SiPreBA) denounced the forced evacuation and outsourcing of the historic Clarín graphic plant operated by AGEA S.A., accusing the company of “labor fraud” and warning that the move threatens dozens of families.

Following failed conciliation hearings, Unionbat Gualeguaychú proceeded with the dismissal of 101 workers and the closure of its plant to relocate production to Buenos Aires, leaving workers in a protest camp. In Rosario, former Brio food company employees organized a public soup kitchen to protest unpaid wages for 60 dismissed workers, part of a broader wave of approximately 200 layoffs.

By late August, the focus shifted toward union governance and regional stability. In San Juan, Eduardo Cabello was re-elected as the regional CGT delegate for a four-year term following the withdrawal of an opposition list. In Chaco, Isaías Alegre was ratified as the leader of CGT Chaco through 2030. Supported by 88 unions, Alegre warned of a year defined by “intense social conflict and street protests” due to a lack of dialogue with the provincial government regarding pending demands such as worker housing projects. Additionally, the MST organization announced plans to mobilize toward the Buenos Aires provincial government to demand urgent measures regarding food insecurity and social assistance.
