Argentina's Aprender 2025 test shows gains in primary reading and math

The national Aprender 2025 assessment, covering over 750,000 sixth‑grade students, recorded improvements in 23 of 24 provinces for reading and 22 for mathematics. Satisfactory or advanced results in reading rose 10.5 points to 76.9 % and in math 3.5 points to 55.0 %. Gaps remain, with high‑income students achieving 89 % satisfactory reading versus 67 % for low‑income peers, and public schools lagging private schools.

Provincial highlights include Corrientes, where 74.2 % of students reached satisfactory or advanced reading – a 13‑point jump – and 51.4 % did so in math, placing the province among the nation’s top performers. Chaco posted a historic increase of more than ten points in reading comprehension, credited to the "Aprendo Leyendo" program that distributed over 300,000 books and provided teacher training, alongside the community‑based "Chaco Lee" initiative. Entre Ríos recorded the largest regional gains, adding 12.8 points in reading and 5.5 points in math.

Education officials attribute the progress to sustained literacy policies launched after the pandemic, teacher commitment, and targeted programs, while acknowledging that socioeconomic disparities and slower math gains still require attention.
