Argentina's provinces report higher student scores and record education spending

Provincial results from the Aprender 2025 assessment show marked improvements in several Argentine regions. Entre Ríos posted scores above the national average. In Chubut, students advanced 18 points in Language and four points in Mathematics, with 45.8% reaching satisfactory or advanced levels in Language and only 3.2% below basic, while participation reached 98.3% of schools and 87.2% of students. Corrientes saw a 13‑point gain in Language, reaching 74.2% satisfactory/advanced, and a modest rise in Mathematics to 51% satisfactory/advanced, though one‑quarter of students still fall short of reading expectations. The national report highlighted the cohort’s pandemic‑era schooling disruptions but attributed progress partly to the 2024 National Literacy Plan.

A separate UBA‑based analysis highlighted Neuquén as the leading province in per‑student education investment, allocating roughly 6 million Argentine pesos per student in 2024 – the highest in the country. Neuquén also records the highest teacher salaries, with a primary‑school teacher earning 142 % more than the lowest‑paid province. The province’s education budget accounts for 42 % of its total spending, funding infrastructure upgrades, equipment, meals, transport, and the Gregorio Álvarez scholarship programme. This investment contrasts with a reported 47‑48 % decline in national education spending.
