Argentina's provinces show stark labor market contrasts

A recent report by consulting firm Politikon Chaco identified Entre Ríos as the Argentine province with the lowest average gross salary in the private education sector during the first quarter, at 853,839 pesos. The province also fell below the national average for all private formal sector jobs, which stood at 2,207,129 pesos. By contrast, Santa Cruz recorded the highest private‑education earnings at 1,871,293 pesos, and Neuquén and Santa Cruz led overall private wages with averages above three million pesos.

In the Neuquén‑Plottier urban area, the June INDEC data showed an employment rate of 45.9% and an unemployment rate of 3.7% in the first quarter of 2026, far better than the national urban average of 7.8%. The governor’s employment and training programmes, including the Vaca Muerta Institute, were credited with boosting local job creation and keeping sub‑employment at 5%, well below the country’s 11% rate.
