Guatemala's 37th Olympic Day Race Draws Over 10,000 Participants
More than 10,000 runners took part in the 37th Carrera del Día Olímpico on 28 June 2026, a nationwide event organized by the Guatemalan Olympic Committee. Races of 4, 5, 8, 10 and 12 kilometres were offered in the capital and other departments, open to all ages and fitness levels.
The ceremony featured leading national athletes, including Taekwondo world‑ranking star Alejandra Higueros and Pan‑American gymnastics champion Jorge Vega, who helped launch the race under the motto “Let’s Move.” The mass participation highlighted the country’s commitment to promoting health, inclusion and Olympic values such as excellence, friendship and respect.
The event reinforced Guatemala’s annual celebration of Olympic Day, aiming to combat sedentary lifestyles and encourage community cohesion through sport.
