Argentina's public sector unions confront government over new hiring regime and CNEA layoffs

Union leaders of the Unión del Personal Civil de la Nación (UPCN) defended the recently approved public‑employment contest system, saying it creates transparent opportunities for permanent positions and urging workers to prepare for the new process. They criticized opponents for spreading fear and highlighted the union’s role in shaping the regulation.

Meanwhile, employees of the Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (CNEA) staged a new protest after a Gendarmería raid cleared a previous occupation. The demonstration, organized by the Asociación de Trabajadores del Estado (ATE), condemned the non‑renewal of dozens of temporary contracts and warned of attempts to weaken the nuclear agency, which they see as a step toward privatization.
