Argentina's Rio Grande and Mexico's Villahermosa launch digital taxi registration platforms

The municipality of Rio Grande in Argentina opened online registration for drivers and vehicles that operate on electronic platforms such as Uber and Didi. Applicants must use the municipal citizen portal, provide personal identification, a professional driver’s licence, background checks and vehicle documents, including up‑to‑date tax, insurance and technical inspection. The digital process aims to formalise and regulate ride‑hailing services within the urban area.

In Villahermosa, Mexico, the state mobility secretariat announced that the new "Movi App" will be deployed in July to serve more than 300 000 taxi users. The app is intended for licensed taxi operators, offering fixed‑rate fares and digital payment through mobile banking. After an enrolment phase for taxi concessions, a testing period will precede full operation, with fares matching existing sector‑based rates.

Both initiatives seek to modernise local transport, provide greater consumer guarantees and integrate digital tools into traditional taxi services.
