Argentina's ruling coalition debates alliances with provincial governors

Members of President Javier Milei's political circle met at Casa Rosada to address internal divisions regarding legislative strategies and negotiations with provincial governors. The discussions focused on two primary objectives: securing legislative support for current projects and projecting potential electoral alliances for 2027.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Chief of Staff Diego Santilli advocated for accelerating agreements with governors to provide political predictability and protect the government's economic program. They emphasized the need for parliamentary stability to support upcoming budgets and economic policies.

However, resistance remains within the administration. Figures such as Karina Milei and the Menem cousins expressed a preference for a more cautious approach, suggesting that negotiations with governors should be extended until December. This faction aims to maintain stronger leverage to preserve libertarian candidacies for the 2027 elections.

These internal disagreements reflect a tension between the immediate need for legislative votes and long-term territorial power distribution between the La Libertad Avanza and PRO parties.
