Argentina's San Luis and Santa Fe Provinces Enact New Education and Cultural Laws
The Senate of San Luis province unanimously approved a law drafted by Governor Claudio Poggi to institutionalise a reading‑writing‑comprehension programme across all levels of compulsory education. Building on the earlier ‘Queremos Aprender’ initiative, the measure provides teacher training, classroom materials, annual diagnostics and specialist support, aiming to double the share of students meeting basic literacy standards. The province also declared 2026 the Year of Education.
In Santa Fe, the provincial Senate passed a bill promoted by Deputy Sofía Galnares that makes the historic Marcha San Lorenzo compulsory in official events and school ceremonies, to be performed alongside the Argentine national anthem. The law seeks to strengthen provincial identity and historical awareness, and will take effect after gubernatorial promulgation.
