Argentina's Volver al Trabajo program ends payments and pivots to training courses

A federal court in San Martín revoked the precautionary order that had required the Ministry of Capital Humano to continue monthly disbursements under the Volver al Trabajo employment assistance scheme. As a result, the July payment was the final one for more than 900,000 workers nationwide.

The government is now promoting the Formando Capital Humano platform, offering a range of vocational and digital courses – from plumbing and electricity to drone operation and resume writing – in partnership with firms such as YPF, Arcos Dorados, Quilmes and the Ministry of Defense. The initiative aims to replace direct cash assistance with skills training to improve participants' chances of entering formal employment.

The original program was slated to end after 24 installments, but a later judicial ruling had kept payments ongoing until a new order was issued. The social assistance component (Acompañamiento Social) remains in force until 2028, separate from the terminated cash transfers.
