Argentinian nanny describes traumatic ICE detention in the U.S

Iliana Noeli Lick, a 30-year-old Argentinian nanny living in Philadelphia, has shared details regarding her month-long detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Lick was apprehended on July 11 at Philadelphia International Airport while attempting to travel to Kansas City for the 2026 World Cup.

Lick, who maintains she has complied with immigration laws and was awaiting a decision on an asylum application, described being treated like a high-risk criminal. She reported being restrained with handcuffs, ankle cuffs, and chains around her waist and feet. During her 31-day custody, she was transferred between facilities in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico.

She detailed harsh living conditions, including sharing rooms with over 100 people in Louisiana and sleeping in a tent with 50 other women in Texas without privacy or adequate bedding. Lick was released after paying a $10,000 bond and is currently under electronic monitoring while her legal case continues.
