Argentine civil society demands hearings on corporate law reform

More than 30 civil society organizations, including human rights and environmental groups, have petitioned the Argentine Senate to hold public hearings regarding proposed reforms to the General Corporations Law. The legislation, promoted by Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation Federico Sturzenegger, seeks to introduce two new legal figures: ‘Automated Societies,’ which could operate without human workers or administrators, and ‘Decentralized Autonomous Organizations’ (DAOs), governed by token holder voting.

The proposal has faced significant controversy due to concerns over accountability. In response to criticisms regarding the lack of mechanisms to attribute personal responsibility to autonomous systems, Senator Patricia Bullrich announced that the government would modify the project to require that automated societies have at least one identifiable human person or legal entity responsible for their actions.
