Argentine corporate law reform debate

More than 30 civil society organizations, including human rights, environmental, and indigenous groups, have petitioned the Argentine Senate to hold public hearings regarding proposed reforms to the General Corporations Law. The legislation, promoted by the government of Javier Milei, seeks to introduce ‘Automated Societies’ and ‘Decentralized Autonomous Organizations’ (DAOs).

Critics and specialists have raised concerns regarding accountability and the potential for these entities to operate without human responsibility. While the reform aims to attract technological innovation and investment, advocates argue the complexity of the issue requires multidisciplinary parliamentary debate involving experts in law, technology, and sociology.

In response to criticisms regarding the lack of mechanisms to attribute personal responsibility to autonomous systems, Senator Patricia Bullrich announced that the government would modify the project to require that automated societies have at least one identifiable human person or legal entity responsible for their actions.
