Argentine court revokes ruling for 7,000 vehicle buyers

The Federal Chamber of Comodoro Rivadavia has overturned a previous ruling that favored nearly 7,000 vehicle buyers in Tierra del Fuego. The court rejected a class-action lawsuit filed against eight automotive companies regarding the application of tax benefits under Law 19.640.

The original decision by the Federal Court of Río Grande had recognized indemnities for consumers who claimed that car manufacturers failed to fully pass on tax and customs exemptions to final vehicle prices. However, the appellate judges, Aldo Suárez and Javier Leal de Ibarra, revoked the sentence, citing the statute of limitations. The court noted that the legal claim was filed in November 2015 for transactions occurring between 2001 and 2010, determining that the two-year period for claiming damages had expired.
