Argentine Football Association officials under investigation for corruption
Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), and Treasurer Pablo Toviggino are facing scrutiny over the use of ten external intermediaries to collect sponsorship payments for the national team. Investigations suggest these agents received commissions of up to 30 percent from major sponsors such as Adidas and Google, with millions of dollars reportedly missing from AFA balances until this year.
Many of these intermediaries appear to exist only on paper, utilizing websites with AI-generated or stock imagery and lacking verifiable employees or clients. The most recent designee, Moon Euro Management LLC, is based in Dubai, a jurisdiction noted for its opacity. This move is viewed as an attempt to move funds outside of the United States banking system, where three prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation into Tapia, Toviggino, and other officials.
Reports indicate that most of these firms, including TourProdEnter LLC linked to Javier Faroni and Érica Gillette, were designated unilaterally by the AFA rather than through formal commercial framework agreements.
