Argentine lawyers to elect National Council of the Magistracy representatives
Lawyers with federal registration across Argentina will vote on Tuesday, October 20, to elect representatives to the National Council of the Magistracy (Consejo de la Magistratura) for the 2026-2030 term. The election, held from 9:00 to 18:00, will determine four titular members and their alternates responsible for selecting judges, managing judicial resources, and overseeing disciplinary procedures.
Four lists are competing in the election: Lista 1 (Abogacía Federal) led by Fernando Levene; Lista 2 (Abogacía por la Libertad) led by Luis Palomino; Lista 3 (Unidad en Defensa de la Abogacía) led by Alberto Biglieri and Claudia Sarmiento; and Lista 4 (Abogacía Unida y Dignidad Profesional) led by Itatí Demarchi Arballo.
Key campaign issues include reducing discretion in judicial competitions, strengthening judicial independence, and modernizing the justice system. Candidates from Lista 3 have specifically highlighted the need to address professional challenges such as judicial delays, difficulties in collecting legal fees, and the importance of recognizing the experience of independent lawyers during the selection process.
