Argentinian towns roll out winter safety measures and public works

The municipality of Río Grande (Tierra del Fuego) warned residents to protect water pipes from freezing, keep sidewalks clear of frost and use studded tires during the 2026 winter operation. In Valle Viejo (Catamarca), the local government opened four simultaneous sewer‑work fronts, installing new pipes of various diameters and rebuilding road sections while urging motorists to follow traffic signs.

Ushuaia’s municipal services continued the Operativo Invierno 2026, deploying salt trucks, sand and monitoring crews to keep main roads, school routes, the regional hospital and other critical corridors passable. The city also reported progress on June construction projects, including a 92%‑complete tourism office refurbishment and a 55%‑complete expansion of the Los Zorzales kindergarten. Over the weekend, Ushuaia’s cultural and sports departments offered a schedule of concerts, exhibitions, basketball, judo and kick‑boxing competitions, as well as community talks and film screenings.

All actions aim to ensure safety, maintain infrastructure and promote community life during the cold season.
