Argentine municipalities advance urban drainage and flood prevention works

Municipalities in Argentina are advancing infrastructure projects to improve urban drainage and prevent flooding. In Paraná, works in the Bajada Grande neighborhood involve replacing existing storm drains with larger 800mm diameter conduits. This initiative, part of the ‘Plan Calle a Calle’, aims to mitigate the impact of heavy rains and the anticipated El Niño phenomenon by directing excess water toward Laguna Escondida and reducing soil erosion.

In Córdoba, the stormwater drainage project on Sagrada Familia Avenue has reached its final stages, with progress reported between 75% and 95%. The project includes the construction of extensive underground conduits, concrete chambers, and sumps, alongside the installation of 11,500 square meters of concrete pavement.

Additional improvements in Córdoba include the creation of a central boulevard, the installation of LED lighting, and the construction of 30 ramps for universal pedestrian mobility. These works are expected to benefit over 20,000 residents across several neighborhoods, including Villa Siburu and Las Palmas, while improving traffic circulation and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
