Argentine municipalities expand free veterinary sterilization services
Municipalities in Argentina are expanding veterinary services to promote responsible pet ownership and control animal populations through free sterilization programs.
In San Pedro, Jujuy, the new offices of the Directorate of Health, Pests, and Zoonosis have opened in the Las Maderas neighborhood. The facility includes modern installations and a model operating room to strengthen prevention and veterinary care. The center provides free spaying and neutering for dogs and cats to prevent abandonment and overpopulation. Local officials noted that these services provide significant economic relief to families, as private veterinary interventions can be costly.
In General Pico, La Pampa, the municipality utilized a mobile operating room to perform 73 free sterilizations in the Roca neighborhood. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, aims to reduce waiting times for appointments and bring essential services directly to local communities. The program is part of an ongoing public policy to integrate animal welfare into municipal governance.
