Argentine municipalities host youth legislative programs
Local governments in Argentina are hosting initiatives to promote civic engagement among students through youth-led legislative programs.
In Necochea, the 2026 Youth Parliament was held at the Honorable City Council. As part of a provincial socio-educational program, secondary school students debated topics including mental health, comprehensive sexual education (ESI), environmental education, human rights, and the relationship between youth and work. The session concluded with the election of delegates to represent the district at the provincial stage.
In Avellaneda, the second edition of the Youth Council saw the swearing-in of 24 titular and 28 substitute members from 20 different public and private schools. Mayor Magdalena Sierra attended the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the program in teaching young people how to dialogue, formulate proposals, and understand their rights within a democratic framework.
