Argentine municipalities promote local food production through seed distribution

Municipalities in Argentina are promoting local food production through seed distribution programs and social economy fairs.

In Paraná, the ‘Primavera en el Gazzano’ event at Parque Gazzano brought together entrepreneurs from the Social and Solidarity Economy, producers, and neighbors. The initiative included a fair for local products, the sale of agroecological vegetables, and the free distribution of seasonal seeds for family gardens. Mayor Rosario Romero emphasized the importance of residents being able to produce their own food.

In Goya, the local government conducted the second phase of the Jakaru Porá 2.0 provincial program. Mayor Mariano Hormaechea and Human Development Secretary Julio Canteros oversaw the distribution of 18 varieties of seeds intended for the spring-summer 2026 season. The program aims to strengthen self-production, promote healthy eating, and support family economies by encouraging the practice of home gardening in both urban neighborhoods and rural areas.
