Argentine nanny Iliana Lick released from U.S. custody
Iliana Lick, a 30-year-old Argentine nanny, has been released from U.S. custody after being detained for nearly a month by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Lick was originally arrested on July 11 at Philadelphia International Airport while attempting to travel to Kansas to watch a World Cup match.
A federal immigration judge set her bail at $10,000. Following her arrest, a GoFundMe campaign organized by her partner, Steven Melchiorre, raised over $18,800 through more than 220 donations to cover the bail and immediate expenses.
During her detention, Lick was transferred between facilities in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico. While she has been released and is currently staying in a hotel in El Paso, Texas, her legal process regarding her immigration status in the United States remains ongoing. Lick had previously entered the country on a tourist visa and stated she was in the process of regularizing her work status.
