Argentine Oil Union Leader Mario Lavia Calls for Investment at ILO Conference

Mario Lavia, secretary‑general of the Argentine Federation of Oil, Gas and Biofuels Unions (FASIPEGyBIO), addressed the 114th International Labour Conference of the ILO. He urged that without new investments in conventional oil activity “there is no future for petroleum employment,” emphasizing the need for tripartite dialogue and policies that sustain conventional production to protect thousands of jobs and regional economies.

Lavia highlighted that the energy transition must consider each country’s productive reality, urging Argentina to create conditions for continued investment in fields such as Vaca Muerta, which he envisions not only as a resource extraction site but also as a hub for employment, technology and industrial development.
