Julio Iglesias faces new lawsuit in Spain over sexual assault and trafficking allegations
Two former employees of singer Julio Iglesias, identified by the pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura, have filed a new lawsuit in Spain alleging sexual assault, human trafficking, and forced labor. The legal action, supported by the NGO Women’s Link Worldwide, was presented to the Audiencia Nacional.
The complainants allege that the incidents occurred in 2021 at the singer's properties in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. They describe a pattern of continuous sexual harassment, physical injuries, and degrading treatment, claiming Iglesias used his position of power to exploit their vulnerability. Specific allegations include being forced to undergo gynecological exams and pregnancy tests.
This legal move follows a previous complaint filed in January that was archived by prosecutors, who initially ruled that Spanish courts lacked jurisdiction because the alleged crimes took place outside of Spain. The new lawsuit seeks to challenge this jurisdictional barrier, with Women’s Link arguing that Spanish courts should have authority over its citizens for such crimes committed abroad.
