Violent crimes targeting elderly in Chile

Overview

Chilean authorities are investigating two separate violent crimes targeting elderly individuals.

In Las Condes, 83-year-old journalist Alfredo Lamadrid and his 71-year-old wife were victims of a home invasion. Three assailants entered the residence by breaking a gate and a window, using knives and blunt objects to steal jewelry and watches valued at approximately 10 million pesos. The suspects fled in a waiting vehicle when the couple’s son arrived.

In a separate incident in Quillón, a couple aged 74 and 69 were kidnapped at gunpoint. The perpetrators transported the victims to Concepción, where the man was forced to withdraw money from a bank. The wife was later abandoned on a rural road in Florida. The robbery is estimated at 70 million pesos, and police have recovered the vehicles used in the crime.
