Argentine police capture smuggling gang after high-speed chase

Police in Argentina apprehended a criminal group following a high-speed chase and a collision involving a patrol vehicle near Pampa del Indio. The incident began on Tuesday evening when a Volkswagen Amarok evaded a police checkpoint near Presidencia Roca, prompting a pursuit along provincial routes.

During the chase, a rural division vehicle collided with the suspects' truck, causing an officer to sustain injuries. The occupants fled on foot into a wooded area but were later captured the following afternoon at a control point on National Route 95. Among those detained was a former police officer from Formosa.

Authorities seized a large quantity of foreign-origin cigarettes, estimated to be worth approximately $60,738,820, which lacked proper customs documentation. The Volkswagen Amarok involved in the incident was also confiscated; it had an active warrant for its seizure issued from Buenos Aires.
