Cigarette smuggling investigation in Argentina

Following a high-speed chase and collision near Pampa del Indio, Argentine police apprehended a smuggling gang involved in transporting undocumented foreign-origin cigarettes. The pursuit began when a vehicle evaded a checkpoint near Presidencia Roca, leading to a collision with a rural division vehicle that injured an officer. During the incident, suspects fled into a wooded area before being captured at a control point on National Route 95. Authorities seized contraband cigarettes valued at approximately $60,738,820 and a vehicle with an active seizure warrant.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three men from the Formosa province at Puesto Lavalle in Chaco. The suspects were intercepted in a vehicle showing signs of recent travel on unpaved roads and containing traces of dense vegetation. Following consultation with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña, authorities detained the men and seized their mobile phones and vehicle.
