Argentine police officer and unborn baby survive accidental shooting

A pregnant police officer, Marian Jofré, and her unborn child survived after being accidentally shot by a partner inside a police precinct in La Bebida, San Juan province, on September 14.

During administrative duties at the 34th Precinct, Cristian Albarracín was handling his service weapon when it discharged, striking the 29-year-old Jofré in the back. Albarracín told investigators that he had previously loaned the weapon to a colleague during a suspect chase and was unaware the firearm was still loaded when it was returned to him.

Jofré, who was six months pregnant, underwent surgery on September 17 to remove the bullet and was discharged the following day. Local reports indicate the pregnancy was not at risk. Jofré’s family criticized local authorities for a lack of communication, noting they learned of her condition through media reports rather than official channels.
