Diego Santilli predicts Javier Milei will be the first non-Peronist re-elected
During the AmCham Summit 2026, Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli expressed his conviction that President Javier Milei will become the first non-Peronist president to be re-elected in 2027. Santilli noted that the government is working to expand its electoral strength by building coalitions with various provincial governors.
Santilli also detailed the administration's economic agenda, which includes a scheduled reduction of tax pressure on producers through 2027 and 2028. He highlighted plans to reduce taxes on crops like soy, corn, and sunflower, while positioning the mining sector as a key pillar for fiscal relief through large investment incentives.
However, the administration faces significant criticism. Libertarian economists have warned that while macroeconomic indicators like fiscal surplus and declining inflation show progress, the real economy is in a deep recession characterized by falling consumption, high fixed costs, and employment risks. Additionally, political figures have criticized the government's handling of water royalties in La Pampa and argued that current economic policies are eroding the middle class and increasing household debt.
