Argentine politicians debate 2027 election alliances and coalitions
Political tensions are rising in Argentina regarding potential alliances and candidate selection for the 2027 elections. Members of the PRO and the Radical Civic Union (UCR) have rejected a proposal by Martín Lousteau to form an opposition coalition that would include Kirchnerism or leftist sectors. PRO legislator Waldo Wolff and UCR deputy Karina Banfi both expressed strong opposition to such an arrangement, emphasizing their commitment to fighting populism and corruption.
Separately, former Vice President Julio Cobos has criticized political negotiations between Alfredo Cornejo and Karina Milei. Cobos challenged reports that La Libertad Avanza might agree not to field competitive candidates in certain districts in exchange for support on electoral reforms. He argued that political competition is essential for society and defended the right of figures like Luis Petri to compete for governorships rather than being sidelined by strategic agreements.
