Argentine politicians urge 15 provinces to adopt Single Ballot system
A group of 189 political leaders from various parties and districts in Argentina, organized under the civil association Red de Acción Política (RAP), has called for 15 provinces to adopt the Single Ballot (Boleta Única) system for the 2027 elections.
The signatories represent a broad political spectrum, including members of La Libertad Avanza, PJ, Pro, UCR, Coalición Cívica, and the Socialist Party. They propose using 2026, a year without national elections, to implement the necessary legislative changes.
The proponents argue that the Single Ballot system improves democracy by guaranteeing the right to vote, as it prevents the issue of missing party ballots in voting booths. It also aims to ensure the right to be elected by providing a more equitable and transparent playing field for both large and small political groups. Additionally, the group claims the system is more cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and discourages electoral malpractice such as ballot theft and chain voting.
