Argentine woman arrested in Japan with cocaine capsules inside her body

Argentine national Rosa Micaela Quipildor, 30, has been detained at Tokyo's Haneda Airport after authorities discovered 101 cocaine capsules inside her body. The shipment, weighing nearly one kilogram, has an estimated market value of $150,000.

Quipildor arrived in Japan from London on August 10. Following suspicious behavior during immigration control, she was taken to a hospital where an X-ray revealed the individually wrapped plastic capsules. She told investigators that she was offered $7,000 to transport the drugs after meeting a woman at a festival in Argentina. She also stated she had consumed the cocaine in Brazil before her flight.

This is not Quipildor's first involvement in drug smuggling. In 2022, she was convicted in Argentina for attempting to send approximately 1.36 kilograms of cocaine to Thailand and Malaysia via postal services. In that case, she received a suspended three-year prison sentence, with the court noting her socio-economic vulnerability.
