Argentinian municipalities expand animal health services and digital IDs

The municipality of Escobar, Argentina, completed a full renovation of the Hospital Veterinario y Centro de Zoonosis "Dr. Ricardo Godnic" with an investment of more than 86 million pesos. The upgrades included new roofing, lighting, flooring, reception, and veterinary boxes, and the launch of a digital animal health credential (Credencial Digital ISA) that stores each pet’s medical record on a mobile device. The center now performs over 16,000 castrations, 12,000 clinical consultations, 36,000 rabies vaccinations annually and facilitates about 180 adoptions each year.

In the neighboring district of Nueve de Julio, Dr. Andrés Álvarez, director of the municipal animal shelter and zoonosis unit, reports ongoing free sterilization and rabies‑vaccination campaigns, with the shelter housing roughly 30 dogs rescued from bite incidents or public‑safety risks. The program registers vaccinations in a database and works closely with animal‑protection groups. Álvarez has suggested replacing costly microchip requirements with low‑cost identification collars that display vaccination and sterilization dates.
