Chile's Regional Governments Accelerate Infrastructure Spending
Regional authorities in Chile reported substantial budget execution and new funding for infrastructure projects in 2026. The Arica y Parinacota government, led by Governor Diego Paco Mamani, disclosed that 42.6% of its $23.7 billion budget is allocated to regional infrastructure, including a convention centre for Indigenous peoples, public‑space upgrades and road lighting improvements. In the same session, the four municipalities of the region confirmed they have applied 100% of the SUBDERE‑funded IRAL programme, securing $1.13 billion for urban and neighbourhood upgrades such as water supply and sanitation.
In Tarapacá, Governor José Miguel Carvajal approved more than $16 million from the National Regional Development Fund to launch the first World Robot Olympiad competition, aiming to boost technology skills among secondary students. The Ñuble region achieved the highest national budget execution rate, reaching 50.5% of its allocated spending in the first half of the year, according to Governor Óscar Crisóstomo.
Separately, the Council of Infrastructure Policy (CPI) and private partner ComúnAcuerdo called for a new “pact of legitimacy” to address public concerns over concession contracts, toll revenues and the reinvestment of surplus funds into future projects.
