Chile regional trade and infrastructure expansion 2026
Overview
July 2026 reports showed a surge in exports from the Ñuble region and a rise in national gold output, signalling an early‑year upswing in Chile’s regional trade. By early August, the Arica y Parinacota government disclosed execution of a $23.7 billion budget, with almost half directed to infrastructure, and recorded a 6.8% rise in non‑copper, non‑lithium exports driven by strong fisheries, aquaculture and cement shipments.
On 2 August, regional authorities highlighted continued acceleration of infrastructure spending. Arica y Parinacota allocated 42.6% of its budget to projects such as an Indigenous peoples convention centre, public‑space upgrades and road lighting, while municipalities secured $1.13 billion from the SUBDERE‑funded IRAL programme for water, sanitation and neighbourhood improvements. Ñuble posted the nation’s highest budget execution rate at 50.5% in the first half of the year. Tarapacá approved over $16 million to host the World Robot Olympiad, aiming to boost secondary‑student technology skills. The Council of Infrastructure Policy and private partner ComúnAcuerdo called for a new “pact of legitimacy” to address concerns over concession contracts and toll‑revenue reinvestment. These developments reinforce a broader trend of expanding regional economic activity, export diversification and infrastructure investment across Chile in 2026.
