Arica authorities and CGE coordinate response to rain-induced power outages
In Arica, Chile, municipal authorities and the energy company CGE have met to coordinate responses to electrical emergencies caused by heavy rainfall. Between August 14 and August 18, 2025, the Municipality of Arica's Lighting Department repaired 120 electrical faults resulting from intense rain.
The municipality invested over 10 million pesos in repairing electrical panels and collapsed wiring. Local officials noted that the situation has caused significant losses for farmers in the valleys. Additionally, officials reported issues with the theft of electrical panel covers for scrap metal. CGE has committed to improving communication with residents regarding ongoing repairs and network maintenance.
