Arica Region Launches Regional Employment Table to Boost Jobs

The regional presidential delegate, Cristián Sayes Maldonado, chaired the creation of a Regional Employment Table in Arica and Parinacota, part of Chile's National Employment Plan 2026 which targets 50,000 new jobs nationwide. The table brings together officials from Labor, Economy, Mining, Housing, Finance and SUBDERE to coordinate investment, unblock projects and generate formal, quality employment across sectors such as construction, mining, tourism, agriculture, agro‑industry and commerce.

In parallel, the Plan Especial de Zonas Extremas (PEDZE) has been announced, allocating 2.4 trillion Chilean pesos to 202 initiatives from 2026‑2035 to improve connectivity, infrastructure and employment in the region. Local leaders note high unemployment (8.4%) and informality (34%) and stress the need for effective project management and technical capacity to deliver the promised benefits.
