New York Giants defeat Arizona Cardinals to take NFC East lead
The New York Giants defeated the Arizona Cardinals 36-24 on Sunday, moving to a 3-1 record and taking sole possession of first place in the NFC East. The victory was secured in the final seconds when defensive back Deonte Banks intercepted a pass from Jacoby Brissett and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown.
Backup quarterback Jameis Winston, starting in place of the injured Jaxson Dart, threw three touchdown passes to Malachi Fields, Malik Nabers, and Theo Johnson, though he also recorded two interceptions. The win marks the first time since 2015 that the Giants have held a solo lead in the division this early in the season.
The Cardinals, now 1-3, held an early 14-3 lead before their offense struggled, managing only 138 total yards following that advantage. The game also drew attention due to a controversial moment where line judge Jeff Seeman was caught on camera using profanity toward Cardinals tight end Trey McBride.
