Arizona forms coalition to bid for U.S. Space Academy

Arizona has formed a statewide steering committee to bid for the proposed United States Space Academy. Following an executive order by President Donald Trump, the state is leveraging its aerospace industry, research institutions, and former national security leaders to position itself as the host for the new federal training institution.

The proposed academy is intended to serve as a NASA training facility, preparing personnel for space-related operations. The committee, led by Governor Katie Hobbs, includes experts from the University of Arizona, the Arizona Space Commission, and former leaders from NASA and the Air Force. The state aims to use its existing research capabilities, workforce training programs, and available land to secure the academy, which officials believe would strengthen the local aerospace workforce and attract private investment.
